Two becoming one

For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.

Genesis 2:24

This verse explains a principle that many people on the road to marriage and even more so, those that are already married should take the time to ponder.

God made man in his own image, whole and complete with everything he needed to survive and thrive. So when God wanted to make a companion for this man, God took something out of the man and used it to form the woman. Now, the whole and complete man God initially created has a part of himself in the form of the woman.

So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep, and while he slept, He took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the area with flesh. And from the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man, He made a woman.

Genesis 2:21

Marriage is therefore an institution established by God to unite both the flesh of the man and the woman: “You have what I need, and I have what you need!”. God created a need in both the man and woman, that marriage was established to fulfill. Therefore, when a man is joined together to his woman in marriage, they, together become one again, whole and complete.

Therefore, it is futile in marriage to focus on each others’ weaknesses, but rather the essence of marriage is to support and plug-in for one another in the act of love and unity.
