Control your goals

“But test them all; hold on to what is good.”

1 Thessalonians 5:21

The next step is to control your goals.

What have I accomplished?

Periodically assess your progress. Are you where you should be in terms of cost, milestones and time?

Retrospectives

Have regular check-ins with yourself and your stakeholders. Analyse your risks – has the probability of what you thought would be a risk changed? Are the mitigation steps you had in place still valid?

Be open to change

Change is inevitable. As discussed in the Plan your goals post, you need to be adaptable and make amendments where necessary. For example, if the mitigation steps mentioned above are no longer adequate, they will need to be amended to cater for new identifiable risks or change in your predicted risk probability.

Communicate

Again, continuously dialoguing with your stakeholders is vital. Give progress updates, inform about what is going well, the challenges you are facing, what you need help with, whether or not you are you on track and so on.

So, that is it for controlling your goal. In the next post, we will discuss the final step…..
