“Commit your future to the LORD! Trust in him, and he will act on your behalf.”
Psalm 37:5
How often is your prayer out of desperation? You know the “Oh God, please please get me out of this mess!” or the “Oh God, if you deliver me from this trouble, I promise to do better next time!”. If you find that your prayer time is far more prevalent around times of distress and troubles, you need to re-think your prayer strategy.
Too many of us go into careers, relationships, businesses, investments and so on without first committing its future to God, but once we get into trouble, we remember to pray and to pray consistently during those times.
This verse encourages us all to pray at the beginning of every endeavour. Commit your plans to God at the beginning, as doing this will ensure you get the divine help, direction and guidance you need, which will help you avoid in the first place, the troubles you could end up in.
Trust in and rely confidently on the LORD with all your heart
Proverbs 3:5-6
And do not rely on your own insight or understanding.
In all your ways, know and acknowledge and recognize Him,
And He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way].
We often take things for granted, maybe because we successfully navigate them everyday. Imagine you are a student going to school everyday. You are likely to think ‘as long as I wake up early enough not to miss the bus, I will get to school on time’. This could constitute ‘leaning on your own insight or understanding!’. As you should never forget the other many variables and unpredictables that could prevent you from getting to school on time or even at all. So, in this example, always committing to God your daily commute to school is expedient.
Give us today our daily bread.
Matthew 6:11
The words of Jesus in the Lord’s prayer speaks precisely to this message. Many of us are fortunate enough to have food to sustain us every day. Yet still, we are reminded to commit our need for daily sustenance to God, to acknowledge and recognize the role that God has in having our daily needs met.
There is a real benefit when you initiate your plans with God’s help; and nothing is too big or too small to commit to God. Pray to God about the plans you wish to make and the plans you have already made. You can be guaranteed the future of a thing that you commited to God at the beginning.
