Faith It Till U Make It (FITUMI)

Now faith is the certainty of things hoped for, a proof of things not seen.

Hebrews 11:1

There are moments in life that we may find ourselves in murky waters, maybe a situation is confronting us that we cannot seem to see past. There are times that we cannot even see the tunnel, talk less of seeing the light at the end of it. Despite praying and hoping incessantly, we still do not see things turning around, they may even appear to be getting worse. The encouragement for you today is: “Don’t lose your receipt!”

For those who are familiar with the concept of going into a shop and making a purchase of a large home appliance, perhaps a fridge or a washing machine. You pay for the appliance in the shop and you are given a receipt. A date is then scheduled for which your appliance will be delivered to you. Although, the appliance is not with you in your home yet, the receipt you have is certain proof that you have it, it is yours and it is only a matter of time for it to be delivered.

Around the age of 17, Joseph, the son of Jacob, had an inspired dream that he would one day have a position of rulership, and everyone in his family would one day bow down themselves to him. However, the series of events that took place in the years that follow did nothing to suggest that Joseph’s inspired dream would ever be fulfilled.

Immediately after having this dream, Joseph was kidnapped and sold into slavery by his own brothers. He then worked his way up to become the house master in the house of Potiphar, the captain of the Egyptian king’s guard, to whom he was sold. But just when Joseph could have thought that things were turning around for good, he was falsely accused and imprisoned in the foreign land of Egypt.

However, because Joseph kept the receipt for his dream, he always comported himself in a manner that was consistent with his hope and dream. Sure enough, with God’s favour, Joseph was put in charge of everyone, even in prison, and he was made responsible for everything that went on there.

It wasn’t until around the age of 30 that Joseph’s dream was finally realized. He became the prime minister of Pharaoh, the ruler of Egypt; and sure enough, in a series of events that ensued, his family came down to Egypt and unknown to them who he was, bowed down before him.

Therefore, whether you have hopes and dreams to achieve something or you are hoping for a certain situation to turn around for good, keep holding to your receipt of faith once you have prayed. Comport your thoughts, emotions and behaviour to be consistent with your expected outcome. Think, feel, talk and walk like you have already received what you are praying for.

“Therefore I say to you, that everything that you pray and ask, believe that you are receiving it and you shall have it.”

-Mark 11:24

I recently came across the acroym F.I.T.U.M.I., which represents the aphorism “Fake It Till U Make It!”. But here, it represents a bible principle, it is truth and there is nothing fake about it: “Faith It and U will surely Make It!”
